Default can you remove heads with LT's still attached?

im tryin to get the heads off her tomorrow night, i have everything else done, even the head bolts are out... i have the heads pulled off the gaskets but im wondering... can i just disconnect the headers from the x pipe and pull it right off or would i have to disconnect the headers first and then pull out the heads? im thinking there is a way i can pull the heads up a few inches and get alot more access to the header bolts..

im going to bump you on this one. im having the same dilema. i have mac LT's and i need to pull the motor. its way to tight to pull the headers. im just gonna pull the whole motor and trans. i think im gonna disconect the header on the driver side since its MUCH easier to get to and just leave the one on the passenger side connected to pull the motor. I'd suggest getting a friend to lift the heads up to unbolt the headers. i have some pictures that i took last nnight to prove how tight it is.

what are you doing this for anyway? PI swap?
