RE: warranty question
so Dan, if i bought the car not knowing it had gears, and the dealership didn't know, why do they try and sell you an extended warranty when the car has mods that basically void it? it had a MAF and exhaust when i bought it. those mods are common as we know. I would think surely since i bought the car as is with a warranty, they should cover the repairs.but ill have a hell of a time proving it didn't change the rear end.

RE: warranty question
MAF on a Mach 1? Hm, are you sure the car has never been supercharged?
As for the warranty, it is their responsibility to determine everything that is done to the car for the warranty. They sold you the car in it's condition with a warranty stating (it may have been different with your contract, but my warranty contract I had with my 02 GT worked like this) if anything fails, it is going to replaced with the same parts. If your diff fialed & they pulled out a set of 4.10 gears - then they should be replacing with 4.10 gears, unless it's in the contract that they replace with factory spec parts only. In that case, you could be out of luck.
I cancelled my 02 GT's warranty and got$1,100 back from a $1,500 cost.

RE: warranty question
This would be a good time to remind Mustang buyers to think real hard about warranty issues before they modify their cars. There have been lots of posts about warranty problems and considering the dire financial straits Ford is in,it's no wonder they don't fix everything that comes through the door. After all they have no control over who does what to the car after ti leaves the showroom.
Google Moss-Magnussen Act and see what comes up.I used to have the entire page but it was lost. This is the info that will say that if the shop can't prove the modification caused the defect the warranty must be honored. The SEMA website might have something to help also. The questions would be,did the new shifter cause the tranny to break a shift fork? Did the CAI cause the enigne to lean out and break a piston? How about an aftermarket tune? What about headers causing the CD player to quit playing,or pulleys causing the windshield to leak?
This is the main reason I didn't buy a used Mustang, you never know who did what,or the quality of the work performed.
