Key Chip

RE: Key Chip
Im not sure if its different at each dealership , but when i got a new key it was 65$ for the inital key and program and an additional 30$ a key..... but then again some of the people that work at dealerships will tell you one thing and then another person at the same dealership tells you another, when i took my car i deleted the secondary air injection system (smog pump) off my motor, they told me i needed to put it back on cause my car was gonna bog down since it was a crank case evacuation pump, then i tried to have him explain to me how an air pump that hoses into 2 check valves then plugs into my exhaust manifolds is an ccep. lol

The service advisors are the ones that pull prices outta there asses lol you seriously have to watch them guys. Half the time they dont know what they're talkin about and tell a customer their vehicle needs one part, I get it and it needs something totally different. They tell the customer and the customer gets pissed off at me

Just a little advice 'cuz I just had this done. Ford dealership will charge about $45 for the key, and $90 to program it. They might give you a break if doing two keys at once. Most decent locksmiths can do it and it will be alot cheaper. I paid about $80 total. If you have only one key and want a spare, you will still have to go through this process. If you have two keys programmed you can add more and program them yourself. I bought two blanks on e-bay for about $15. Just get them cut, the programming instructions are online.

Mostfull service locksmiths should have the computer to program the keys - takes any where from 15-30 minutes. Once you have 2 working keys programmed, you can get the key blanks anywhere....I found e-bay to be the cheapest, and they are Ford OEM keys....and program them yourself. The programming instructions are on several of the e-bay dealers sites. But you MUST first have at least two working keys. The first two will be the expensive ones but as I said earlier, $80 at the locksmith vs. $135 at the dealer.

RE: Key Chip
The chip is in the black plastic housing at the front near the key stem. My wifes 2000 vert mustang has a red plastic tab but my 2003 GT does not have any visible tab. I suspect they started sealing the chips into the keys to prevent them falling out like with yours, I only have one key myself and asked ford how much for a spare to be programmed and they said $70...
