Default something smells funny!

so the night before the snow hit out here in PA, i was on my way home and i got challenged 3 times in a row! i can't back down so i took em on. i was already doing around 55 when so dip decided he wanted to play (3rd race). this is my first 5 speed so i didn't know how hard i could be on her. i droped into 4th grabbed a little more speed and slamed it back into 5th. when i did this i smelled somethingkinda burning kinda smokey.

did i hurt my clutch or trans?

my friend at work who also owns a stang said i could have dropped into 3rd from 5th. is he right?

In a stock gearing, 3rd will easily bring you to 90-100, so yes you could have dropped into 3rd no problem. This is your first 5 speed, did you rev match? If you downshifted without giving it a little gas to bring the rpm's up before dumping the clutch, you jerked the car when it had to match the much faster spinning transmission to the engine. If your clutch is getting old, that not rev matching could cause it to slip and thus you smell burning clutch.

I agree about the rev matching statement. Gotta drive right. Did you win the race??

LMAO! yeah u sure the torque didnt jerk the fart outta yuh? If it wasnt the torque im sure throwing it into 3rd gear would have! lol yea man ur smelling a slipping clutch. It might need to be adjusted or something. My stock clutch did that everytime i got on it because it was too tight on the adjustments causing it to slip
