New guy here with some questions!
Hi all well today I just bought a 2002 GT convertible 4.6 L 5 speed, bone stock with 45083 miles! I am very excited about it and want to get started by changing all the fluids. Here are my questions:
1. What oil weight is recommended? I want to use Royal Purple.
2. What type tranny fluid?
3. What rear end oil?
Would also like to flush the cooling system and clean the fuel injection out.
I am new to the mustang world, all my time and effort has gone into my 2004 Ram 1500 Hemi. It's a quick truck running 13.9 @ 96 mph in the 1/4" mile.......not bad for a 5000 lb beast!
Anyway your help is greatly appreciated!
Erik

Your HEMI just might be faster than your stang!!..lol
5w-30 oil ...6qts
ATF Mercon III or mercon V for synthetic (overrides III)
75w-90 gear..buy 2qts but only use 1.5 along with a tube Traction additive ( 6oz)

RE: New guy here with some questions!
I was once told that you should use an engine oil with the right viscocity for your climate and temp range ei. 0w20 or 30 for winter 5 or 10w30 for summer. The only reason for ford recomending 5w20 is for emission savings on their part cause motor companies have to pay environmental charges under a certain mpg. The 20 weight oil will reduce your engine life but not by a whole bunch.

I thought it was 5w-20? Anyway, you can use any full synthetic, Royal Purple is widely known because they pay a lot of money to car shows to be advertised. Mobil 1 is good. Don't use a Frame filter cause it doesn't flow enough for a performance car, use a Pure One or Motorcraft.

Welcome to the Mustang forum. GL with your Stang. You can find out all the info on the fluids in your manual...if u don't have a manual google it. I downloaded my 2004 GT manual from the internet, I believe it was from the Ford site, but don't really remember.
If you bought it from the dealership make sure you use fluids that go by Ford's spec's or else your warrantywill be void if, god forbid, something should go wrong.
