Default SCT tunes for a procharger

I bought a sct tuner and 3 procharger tunes from Blue Oval Performance. My buddy just got his car back with a Vortech V-2 SQ and his seems to be considerably faster. He had his car tuned by a tuner locally. Are tunes that get buy from a shop without being driven junk or what? I figured a P1-SC with intercooler should make a hell of a lot more power than a non aftercooled vortech.

You need a dyno tune. Typically speaking (w/ the exception of Modular Powerhouse) the tunes sent with the s/c kit have a super rich a/f ratio in the low 11's:1 range. Plus they don't put nearly as much timing in the tunes as your car can handle. The 3 SCT tunes I got with my kit had a/f ratios that were off the chart rich on a wideband a/f check. Plus the timing was set at 15 degrees or so. Take it to a trusted mustang tuner and have it dyno tuned. Have your a/f ratio in the high 11's:1 - 12:1. Once the a/f is squared away the tuner can add timing. Timing is where your power is at. Mine is tuned to 19 degrees of timing with a steady a/f ratio of 12:1 at WOT. With my procharger and the mods in my sig I made 370rwhp and 380rwtq.

The tune that were sent to you are purposely conservative like that so you they can't be held responsible if your engine blows up. But, DO NOT GET ON YOUR CAR UNTIL YOU HAVE A GOOD DYNO TUNE DONE!!!!

Yes GO GET A DYNO TUNE. It's really any tune that you get from dealers will be rich. They don't know how your car will react because they're basically guessing, which is why they're so rich - so like he said, iif something happens they can come back and say... can't be my fault...has to be the car/drivers fault... I also say to stay out of boost and get to a dyno shop as soon as you can, and geta good dyno tune...

boost + bad tune = kaboom.

It sounds like to me you are driving around on a boosted 2v without ever having it on the dyno??!?!?! This is paramount to suicide here.

You simply cannot trust ANY tune, no matter how badass the tuner, without a a/f check. I think the world of MPH, but I would NEVER have myself or anyone else get on a 2v with even a MPH tune without checking the a/f ratio first. Anything can be wrong.

That being said, your tune must be fairly conservative since you haven't blown it up yet. Get on a dyno and see what its doing. It may be that the tune is fine, but it might not. More than likely, you have a very rich tune with no timing.

However, I would not discount a non aftercooled vortech so easy. I am currently making 420 WHP on a non cooled vortech, and there is more in the car (kept the tune conservative but making good power). Hell, MPH has non cooled vortech/novi systems making 550+ on pumpgas with the correct shortblock setup.

What are his other mods? Does he have LTs or more exhaust work than you? Your sig says "redneck exhaust". A set of LTs and a midpipe make a huge difference on a FI car. LTs should be worth 20-25+ on a FI car depending on boost levels.

Also, what PSI are you both running?

I have a wideband 02 kit. My a/f stays pretty constant at 11.2/1 from 3k to 6k. I really think like ya'll said is that he retarded the spark so much that it isn't making all of its power. Where is MPH? Pretty much the difference in our cars is he has n/a cams, shorty headers, and 4.10 gears. We both run 10lbs

4.10's own 3.73's

11.2:1 is still pretty rich. I believe 2000GT4.6's is around 11.5-11.6:1 which is to his liking. I like mine at 12:1 which is still pretty safe. Your issue is most likely in the timing. Take the time and go to the dyno. You will be amazed at the difference.

3.55's>4.10's>3.73!!!! lol

I cant imagine my car with 4.10's... one negative thing about roots/twin screw, haha...

But, make sure you take it to someone with a good rep. and that has tuned blown cars.. the tune on a blown car is the most important thing you'll spend your money on!
