Default cost for replacing cats

so my service engine light came on ,I took the car to the dealership and they told me it was the CATS . Im at 72.5 k and ford has 75000 miles warranty so i guess in getting free CATS put in there. i was wondering about how much money im i saving? tks. BTW its a 2000 year model 4.6[8D]

just because the light came on doesn't mean its the cats did they tell you the code that it read...a lot of times it is the o2 sensors and the cats should last well over that from the factory...depending if you go new from ford or aftermarket etc a couple hundred 150-200 a piece range...

Why dont you get a H-pipe with no cats? You are saving atleast $300 if its under warranty.

If it's code P0420 chances are pretty good that it IS your cats, assuming you are stock.
As for the money you are saving, chances are from the $tealership it's a lot of money.

Hey look at it this way, chances are the cats are really the problem because you are so close to the 75k warranty cutoff and there is no way Ford would give you cats for free if that were not the problem.
Basically that code and it's cousins are thrown when the rear O2 sensors don't think the cats are doing a good enough job.
It's rarely a sensor problem and almost always either a cat problem or a misfiring problem in which case other codes would be present.

actually the people at the dealer told me that it was the cats.the way i see it its free and and parts will be ford original parts.
