Fuel pump and fuel filter. My $.02
On most cars the classic sign of either going bad is poor high speed power, but on Mustang's (and maybe other Fords as well), it seems like a sick pump or clogged filter causes problems all over the power band for some reason.
Could also be MAF like others have said.
Fuel pressure may not be up to snuff.
Bad plug(s).
Coilpack.
Bad battery/alternator not putting out enough juice.
Start with the simple stuff : plugs/fuel filter and do a fuel pressure check.
Is the timing ok?
Any noise from timing chains?
Problems under load USUALLY indicate ignition.
Problems at high speed USUALLY indicate fuel.
However, like I said, Ford's seem to be different for some reason.
Pull the battery for 1.0 hour and then connect and drive the car around for a while on the highway as well as street driving.
Try turning the key to on, let it sit for 10 seconds and then crank.
If it starts right up, you have a fuel problem.
If not, it's probably ignition although it could be fuel.
I'm sorry for not being specific enough but these things are tough to diagnose.
