Default so...about those gears, &

I have purchased just everything I can think of w/in reason for my '02 GT 5pd. All that I have to get now are 4 mods: 1) a gear, 2) MSD ignition, 3) C&amp;L intake when it becomes available, 4) dynotune &amp; chip.</P>

What is my standarded gearing setup for my Mustang from the factory? I have been considering a 3.73 setup, nothing more. Are those of you w/3.73's happy? where are you RPM's @ 70mph in 5th? How much of 1st gear is taken away? How much top speed is lost? Believe it or not, I spend a decent amount of time up there, so I don't want to seriously harm my top end. No more than say 5mph. What is a reputuable brand name, how much is an average price on parts &amp; labor? Is there anybody is regeared and was NOT happy? Why?</P>

Also, is an MSD ignition or P.B. a worthwile modification? I know I talked to Bamf a while back, but I honestly got away from my modding for a briefy period to get my credit card bill back to normal<IMG src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0">. Is this mod good for more torque, or more hp?</P>

Thanks for all the help in advance<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"> </P><edited><editID>GSXRIntensity</editID><editDate>37863.479375</editDate></edited>

Gears are probably the best cheap mod you can make. I have 3.73s in my 02 and I am extremely happy. Seat of the pant numbers have fifth gear pulling roughly what fourth gear used to pull. I run about 500-700 RPMs up from where I was with the old gears, but it is not too bad. I don't really notice too much less first gear to be honest. I am generally shooting through the gears anyways. The Mustang is electronically limited much lower than it is aerodynamically limited so as far as top end, should not be a major factor. I don't get to the limiter but I have made some 120 to 135 runs for 15 minutes a pop and the only difference is that I get there alot faster. The fuel economy is kind of a push for me. When I am traffic jamming it in town I can run lower RPMs in a higher gear so while my HWY MPGs have dropped, my city mileage has increased slightly. Best brand would most likely have to be Ford Racing. They seem to be pretty familiar with those Mustangs for some reason. Gears run about 180 dollars give or take, regardless of brand. Labor may, and will, vary greatly depending on where you go. If you're looking for some compromise as far as revs and top end, go with 3.55s. And wish you'd have gotten 3.73s....</P>

Gears are an outstanding investment into your ride. Like I said, now it feels like each gear pulls like the one lower used to. (ie. 4th pulls like 3rd used to). You will find yourself trying to shift once more after getting into 5th on the highway for some time after the change.</P>

Hope this info helps some. Enjoy!</P>
