How does it work?
How much do they cost, where can I get one,and how much forinstall?
What's a good brand?
Are they bad for the motor?

Thanks

Good luck, I've been trying to get good stall information here for a year I've been told some brands once or twice, and I know price can range anywhere from $400-1000, but thats about it[X(]

Man with the infinat amount info on the internet I am suprised more people don't know how to search for answers.I'll make it easy for you

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/torque-converter2.htm

This a basic explantion.
As for cost and brands
A good converter will run you about $700+-. Brands like Edge, Precision Industries and Yank all good . STAY AWAY from B&M and TCI, they are junk and a waist of money. Go with at least a 3000 rpm stall speed. Read up on what a Lock-up syle converter is, because that's what;s in your car and what you want.

That shi* is confusing!

Basicly it allows autos to launch at a higher rpm without spinning or without as bad of spin.

You probably want to be making a considerable amount of powerbefore you should really look into one. If your a hardcore track /race guy then this would be a great mod.... Other than that it should not be high on your 'to do' list.

No you will spin quite badly with one if you do not have sticky tires and a decent suspenson. Think about what theydo for a second, they allow you to alunch closer to your torque peak.About the second part, you could not be more wrong. A higher stall converter is great mod on a stockish or mildly modded car. If you an auto and want to do well at the track it should one of your first mods.

Ah i guess i was wrong about the first part. I was just relaying what i have been told over and over.

And yes that is why i said UNLESS YOU GO TO THE TRACK OFTEN it wont really benefit you that much. Im willing to bet 80% of the members on here street race from rolls where this stall converter wont do them much good.

From a slow roll (say under 30 mph) they will still help a great deal, but much above that they are not that much of a help. I don't know about the members not going to the track, I see threads all the time asking what can be done to improve 1/4 mile times.

TommyV8 says he was beat a couple years ago by a new edge GT with basically only 4.10s, a tune, DR's, and a stall. That car went 13.1[sm=drooldude.gif]
