Default Erratic idle problem

Ok, so the car isnt idleing well, goes up and down slow, strong fuel smell to...Ive narrowed it down to these-
-Possible small vaccum leak at intake manifold, checked all hoses, everything seems fine though it still sounds like a slight hissing somewhere...cant pinpoint over the s/c whine
-Bad 02 sensors...they havent been replaced in a while however there is no CEL
-small header leak
-Spark plug gap? I doubt this, but they are gapped for the s/c and at the moment the car is not boosting...so mayby?
any other possibilites or suggestions would be nice
Thanks

Most of the time with something like that it's your IAC valve. It's right next to the throttle body.

i'd check the iac first but i would possibly look into a bad fuel injector. you may have a fuel injection being mechanically stuck open. which would explain the fuel smell a rough idle.

This is an interesting thought as there is a very high pitched electronic like noise, which i thougt may be a vaccum leak as stated, could very well be an injector just dumping fuel in... The IAC is good, i checked the voltage as the book describes. Any idea how i could pinpoint the injector...Mayby just go through and unplug them one at a time until that high pitched noise goes away

unpluging may pinpoint it. unplug them one by one. and obviosly is should have a miss on what ever cylinder you unplug but if the engine seems to run the same when you unplug the injector or the noise goes away thats is more then likely the bad injector. becuase that injector is stuck open and still dumping fuel even though it is not connected. i hope this helps.

if an injector was to get "stuck open", or bad oring on one you would be dumping fuel in to the cylinders with only the key on, you would most likely lock the engine and not even turn over, does it sound like an exhaust leak? are all the spark plugs tight?

I do have a header leak on the drivers side, but this noise is very high pitched...hard to hear over the s/c but definatly there...Though it might be a vaccum leak, but the noise sound electronic...Ill try to unplug them and see what happens, ill also check my plugs as they were changed recently

to check injectors, if you can reach them, put a screwdriver on em, and put your ear up to the end, you should hear them clicking. its them opening and closing, if there is no clicking, you've found your stuck injector.

A header leak can foul up the a/f ratio being seen by thefront sensor on your driver's side (bank 2)--this could cause the PCM to "hunt" to try to find the correct fuel trim...

You have too many fixes going on at once. First thing you need to do is fix the exhaust leak & work from there. This could be throwing your O2 sensors off and give you a rich smelling exhaust & irradic idle, sometimes it's not enough to trip the CEL.
