Nitrous will not explode. If you don't have fuel puddling, your not getting a nitrous backfire, end of story.

Excessive timing will cause detonation, which will destroy the engine, but its not a nitrous backfire, and if you get detonation your not going to blow the intake up without tearing up thebottom endas well.

Its not a matter of milage, its a matter of conditoin. if its in good condition you should be able to spray almost indefinatly, or at least as long as you could with any sort of FI.

The cobra had probably 10 backfires through the intake that was most certainly due to the timing and didn't tear up the bottom end at all. Once he retarded the timing it quite and the same bottom end went on to withstand supercharged power for about 6 months after the nitrous before it finally let loose due to a lean condition with the charger. The car I had that had a nitrous backfire didn't tear up the bottom end either and blew the intake to pieces. No, nitrous does not explode, nobody ever said it did. We've been talking about nitrous backfires here.
