What exactly does pinging sound like?.... how loud is it.. ive had this whistle sound comming from my motor at idle, could that b pinging?... ive been telling my self its a vacuum leak..

 

You usually hear pinging when the motor is under load, like accelerating in 5th gear. It sounds like crackling and poping but not real loud if the radio is on you'll never hear it.

 

The pinging noise you questioned only occurs when you accelerate. That is caused by using low octane fuel. If you have a 5.0 you need to use 93 oct or higher. The smaller v6s can use the lower oct down to 87 oct.

As far as the whistle, I would guess you could have a vacuum problem or check your coolent level. Because the overflow may be trying to suck in pressure. Just a thought...
