Stock speed limiters are 168mph. (Otherwise known as wind resistance)
To the OP...Wheels, 16 inch or 17 inch??

I'd bet a dollar that they are 16's, and Ford's governor is set at 125-128. Thats apparently where Crown Vic PI's are set at, they top out at about there- unless you are going downhill.

Definitely get a tuner when you can. They are most helpful for our autos. Firmed shift points + 4.10's = Almost as fun as a 5 speed
I have 17 w/ z rated tires... maby it orginally came with 16 before I bought it?

Sounds like it to me. Maybe you could go to the dealership, have them check your VIN and see what original equipment your car came with. Or, I would imagine that it could have been special ordered with the governor, like if someone was buying the car for their kid.

Sounds right. BTW, what do the GT 16 inch wheels look like? Are they just the same as the V6 wheels?

you got 16 in wheels?
BINGO!!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!

GTs that came from the factory with 16s had H rated rubber, and as such, were limited to prevent death and lawsuits.

Cars that came with 17s are ungoverned and usually hit the wall at 140 to 150ish. My 02 GT hit 142 with a few mods and 300 pounds of cargo.
I guess everyone just skipped right past my original post.....

I use to have a v6 mustang with 4.10's and with the windows down it would top at about 110-115mph and with them up I could bury the speedo.

I dont know about the GT's though, i just got mine and havent really "tested" it yet, but the concept should remain the same.
