My dad and mines Cobra.
We built it together from scratch 2 years ago, just finished it this year. It's also the car in my family that makes mine look like a complete POS...lol.

Gatorback ftw! Great belt, no slip, and you don't have to change them often so get something decent and it'll even last longer without slipping. Glad to hear that's all your problem was though.
And yeah, if you have trouble getting a belt on, you either: 1. Got the wrong belt, 2. Put it on wrong, or 3. Are an idiot. [8D]

I think it's just the normal half inch ratchet wrench...no need fora socket, just stick the wrench head into the tensioner and pull towards the passenger side of the car, and it will loosen up the belt.
Oh, and I might add that the tensioner bolt is covered by a black cover. It's being held on by 2 13mm nuts. Just take those off, they're pretty easy to take off. Then you can get to the tensioner release.

thats weird you had that problem. i just did 2 days ago but it wasnt as severe as yours. i just heard a few squeals on start up and it ended up being the belt. i changed it and it took like 2 minutes. it was very easy...
