Default Taking on a 1996 Mustang SVT cobra?

Alright My friend has a 96 Cobra with underdrives, bigger throttle body, and a Pro m MAF everything else is stock and its a 5 speed. What would it take for me to be able to just keep up with him? Arent they rated at like 305hp? I have a 98 mustang GT 5 speed and I have a whole list of mods planned as well. I already have the SLP catback and here is the stuff I will be within the year. MAC LT's, Prochamber, densecharger, C+l plenum with accufab 75mm throttle body, Steeda pulleys and timing adjuster, and a set of 4.10 gears. From what I gather it will take me 80hp just to get close to the cobra stock but its not stock. They said it runs low 13's in the 1/4. Oh he says his car has 360hp as well. Now when I had my 89 camaro with a dyno proven 424hp I could whip that cars *** when ever I wanted from a roll and from a stop and it was a one wheel spinner with a 3000rpm stall and 3 speed tranny. But I love my mustang more than I did the camaro so now i must beat the cobra in this one as well. I know I will have to go full bolt on plus something else. Should I do a PI head swap or should I just get a nitrous kit?

Yes if you have stock heads and full bolt on..your still not breathing up top. With heads you can run with him. You might need a dyno tune after that and you will be set!

I'm with snlpa on the PI head swap, I think there's also a PI intake that wouldn't hurt either but I'm not positive on that. The 1 other bolt on I don't see anywhere in your post is a new mid pipe, and if your looking for power high flow cats or no cats. Someone else please back me up or tell me I'm wrong on the mid pipe though cause I'm not sure if they give as much power gains on the 98's as on other models.

With those mods you will gain maybe 40 hp to the wheels....which could put you at 225-230 rwhp. The Cobra stock makes about 265 hp to the wheels....with his mods he may have 275. With your 4.10's I think you have a good chance to keep up with him. You will probably have him off the line, but he will get you up top. Either way it will be a good match up.

lol. I would ay with all those mods, youre not gonna see 13's. unless you do the heads/cams/intake. Then spray a 80 shot on him and you'll have him.

I think I am gonna get a BBK catted h pipe to go with this setup. I mean if I can make enough power to beat him without the nitrous then I will not go with the nitrous. I just wanna be able to run with the cobras around here. Which all are lightly modded or stock.
