Longtube Insall /w PI Swap

Longtube Insall /w PI Swap
We have all heard the horrors of having to install Longtube headers on these 281's we all love so much. I currently have an NPI (aka slug) and if I plan on doing a PI swap, I would do intake/exhaust boltons at the same time.
Considering the main problem in getting the headers on is getting all of the bolts in, would it be possible for me to bolt the headers onto the new PI heads before installing the heads onto the shortblock, and thus avoid having to drop the K-member or hoist the engine? Im thinking this may be an easy way to get these headers on, but I do not know if it is possible to snake the headers in from the top already bolted to the heads.

RE: Longtube Insall /w PI Swap
I recently did the swap and it would seem that it would be a good Idea to bolt them to the head then put them in. That's what I did with my factory manifolds but they are way smaller than the long tubes. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Just remember to take the EGR valve off the stock manifolds and put it on your lontubes. Oh and as far as putting cams in, I wish I had gone with stage I's when I did the swap; just for alittle advice. If you want any more tips or tricks that made the install go smoother just PM me and I'll give you a list of things to watch out for.
Hope that all helps.
Alex.
