Default auto to manual?

I was thinking today. I really want a manual transmission but I bought my car with an automatic. Can I change it to a manual and how much would it cost to do so if I can. Thanks.

It'll cost you over $1800 to do it yourself. It's not all that hard of a swap, but getting together all the parts you need and getting everything right....

If you pay someone to do it, it'll be over $2500 easily.

IMO, its not practical. Just get a good converter, and spend the saved money on something else

I have an 02 GT Automatic. Yeah, I know how you feel. Passing gear doesn't always engage, clanky down shifts. Its a Sh.. tranny. Converting over to manual wasn't worth it. The cost was over $3800 installed. Too much was involved. So I took $1900 and had the AOD set up with a 2600 RPM Stall converter (I run a Vortech SC and any more stall would cause overheating), Shift kit, valve body up grade, and Wide Gear Plantaries with a 2:84 to 1 gearing. With my 3:73's, this gear set up gives me a 4:37 to 1 gear ratio in 1st, 4:11 in 2nd gear and stock ratios in 3 and 4th gears. That in combination with the 2600 Stall gives my Stang much better launches and a hell of a lot more wheel spin which I addressed with an Auburn gear, Steeda Lower control arms Full length Subs, and BFG Drag Radials. ONE NOTE ON THE SHIFT KIT: those clanky down shifts, they will be felt even more at low rpm. You will just have to get used to it.

I think I might have solved the problem. I just asked a dealer around by me for a quote on a 2003 cobra. I hope that we can do something about the price and maybe it will be in my driveway by the weekend. (I hope so.) So that means bye bye to the GT. Sry.
