Check Fuel cap? Does a 2000 Gt conv have that light? I have never seen it. Also, when my filler neck grommet was broke it would leak gas. It got worse to where it would turn on the CEL due to a evap leak.

Default RE: Check Fuel Cap Light On!!!

One common cause is filling the tank with the engine running. I also have this light on. I have changed the fuel cap though my grommet looked fine. Then I changed the charcoal canister purge valve which on my '99 is back under the carf by the fuel tank and has a hose coming from the tank and one going into the canister and a harness. You will likely not throw a code, just tht light and have any of you lost mileage when you had this problem as it seems that I have. Now I just got the last valve in the emissions system which is located in the inner fenderwell, passenger side which requires the wheel to be removed and the inner pastic pulled away from the rear of the fenderwell and the flow valve will be sen bolted to the fender up near the top though I have heard some of these are behind the shock tower under the hood and they are attached to the line that goes to the upper plenum in the back so follow that. THis valve has 2 hpses and another electrical harness and I hope to change mine tomorrow. Even then it may take several starts.cycles for the light to go off but you can try removing the battery cables for a few. I'll let you know. There is also a valve for allowing a shop to send some nitrogem into the system to locate a leak but the purge valve by the tank is especially subject to the elements. Sure would like to hear about any mileage differences.
If not a valve it could be a small leak in the emissions system that is hard to find without the nitrogen smoke. Mark

Well I changed the last sensor/valve an removed the cables to the battery and still the light. I have the car in storage but willbe starting it regularly and will report any changes as it drives me nuts and if it is hurting mileage that just makes it worse. It throws NO codes and will pass inspection as it is NOT a CEL. There are codes for emission leaks, both big and small but.....anyone ever resolved this and if so how please!
