Default PI head and cam swap

im looking to swap my heads and camson my 02 gt. just wonderin what sizeheads would give me to best result and what size cams would give me some nice lope. im goin to do all the work myself and also wanted to know if there were any step by step directions online i can get so i dont screw anything up. i know that ill need new lifters and valve accesories. also need to know how to time the computer. its alot of work and i know i can do it i just dont know the little details that need to be done

If you can afford it, find some good 4 valve heads. As for the cams, there are a lot of VT's around here. They make good stuff and the performance shows it. That's what I'm going to get when it's time to put some cams in my car. But another angle to think about: Why not save a bit of money and just Port and Polish your heads? It would cost less and will make your engine breathe a whole lot better. It may not be a bad move for you, unless you're trying to get up to 600+ hp. Then it might be a good idea to get different ones

im about to move back to WA and not sure if there any machime shops around that do porting, ive heard of doing it yourself but i would be afraid to screw something up.

Yeah, I wouldn't either. But go on the VT site. They offer P&P jobs on your existing heads. I don't know exactly how that works, but I'd think you could send it in to them and they'll take care of you.

here is some help for the cylinder heads man.... this is removal.. it says to remove the engine but you dont have to.

Both Cylinder Heads


[*]Remove the engine. See: Service and Repair[/ol]


























[*]Remove the flywheel.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the separator plate.[/ol]


























[*]Mount the engine on a suitable engine stand.[*]NOTE: RH shown, LH similar. [/ol]

























Remove the RH and LH lifting eyes.



























[*]Remove the breather tube.[/ol]


























[*]Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR electrical connector.[/ol]


























[*]Disconnect the hoses from the differential pressure feedback exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) transducer.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid.[/ol]
[*]Remove the vacuum lines.[*]Remove the electrical connector.[*]Remove the bolts.[/ol]


























[*]Disconnect the EGR tube from the EGR valve.[/ol]


























[*]Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the base of the throttle body.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the PCV valve and hose as an assembly.[/ol]



















































[*]Remove the engine wiring harness.[/ol]


























[*]Disconnect the vacuum line from the fuel pressure sensor.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the throttle body bolts.[/ol]


























[*]NOTE: The gasket is reusable if not damaged. Remove the throttle body and adapter as an assembly.[/ol]
[ul][*]Inspect and clean the sealing surfaces.[/ul][/ul]


























[*]Remove the ignition coils.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the radio interference capacitors.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the accessory drive belt.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the power steering reservoir and bracket as an assembly.[/ol]
[*]Disconnect the supply line from the pump.[*]Remove the (3) bolts and the reservoir and bracket.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the upper generator support bracket.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the bolts and the generator.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the coolant outlet adapter.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the thermostat and O-ring.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the bolts in the sequence shown, and remove the intake manifold.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the intake manifold gaskets.[*]CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean sealing surfaces. These tools will cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Clean the sealing surfaces.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the coolant bypass tube.[/ol]
[*]Remove the nut.[*]Remove the coolant bypass tube.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the RH engine mount.[/ol]


























[*]NOTE: RH shown, LH similar. Using a suitable container, drain coolant from the engine block. Install the drain plugs when finished.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the four bolts and the power steering pump.[/ol]
RH Cylinder Head



























[*]Remove the RH exhaust manifold.[/ol]
[*]Remove the RH exhaust manifold nuts.[*]Remove the RH exhaust manifold.[*]Remove the RH exhaust manifold gasket and discard.[/ol]
LH Cylinder Head



























[*]Disconnect the EGR tube at the exhaust manifold.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the LH exhaust manifold[/ol]
[*]Remove the LH exhaust manifold nuts.[*]Remove the LH exhaust manifold.[*]Remove the LH exhaust manifold gasket and discard.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the oil level indicator tube bolt.[/ol]


























[*]Remove the oil level indicator tube.[/ol]
Both Cylinder Heads


[*]Clean and inspect the exhaust manifolds.[*]CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant. NOTE: The bolts are part of the valve cover and should not be removed. RH valve cover shown, LH valve cover similar.[/ol]

























Remove the RH and LH valve covers.

The 4v head swap is not a simple procedure; if it was we would all do it. There are no real aftermarket 2v heads. Just get your stock ones P&Ped. You'd probably want either VT stage 1 or 2 cams.

Also, you don't "time the computer." You need a dyno tune to correct the a/f ratio and maximize the performance of the new mods. Find a reputable shop and have them do it...
