flywheel help
so im about to replace my clutch because its smoking and i dont want to resurface my flywheel i just want to put the car up on the lift and get it down a few hours later and drive home...so should i replace the flywheel or should it be ok? and 99 gts have an 8 bolt crank right?
*oh and whats the diff in the aluminum/steel/nodular?
*one more thing sorry, can i use a spec flywheel with a king cobra clutch? ive heard bad things about spec stage 1, and i dont think i have enough power to need the stage 2, so i am going with the king cobra

RE: flywheel help
I think it will be ok....Actually I was just thinking about that same setup....I have a Zoom Stg. 2 clutch on a stock resurfaced flywheel and I hate it...Stage 2's are ****ty for daily drivers in my opinion cuz they have too much chatter and shakey. If your like me and don't like the shakey off the start don't get Stage 2's. Sucks in city traffic...especially since I have a daughter...

RE: flywheel help
so i plan to do a king cobra clutch and a spec flywheel for sure....but should i go with billet steel or billet aluminum? there is a decently high price diff in the two... i know aluminum gives more power, but i doubt its enough to notice...anyone know?

RE: flywheel help
aluminum flywheel weighs like 11 pounds i think, steel weighs 31 pounds. good for overall weight reduction and not only that rotational mass for your drivetrain (less power lost in the drivetrain). i dont know how much power will be "added" to your rwhp though. car will also rev faster with aluminum.
some people say the aluminum makes city driving a little harder, others say it doesnt. i havent driven one with an aluminum wheel put in but i'd be willing to guess its like anything else. will take a bit to get used to but once you do it wont be "harder" to drive.

RE: flywheel help
I have a spec stage 1 and I think its great. No problems with it at all. I used a billet steel flywheel because I drag race alot and aluminum is bad for dragracing only road racing. If you dont get a new flywheel you have to resurface your old one with a new clutch. If you have chatter that means you did an improper breakin.

RE: flywheel help
Not sure where this is heading but if you don't get a new FW you have to surface the old one or the clutch will go out real fast. For the money just get a Billet FW and King Cobra clutch and you'll be fine, good luck.
