clutch noise

Default clutch noise

[align=left]When I am rolling in gear and I push the clutch. It makes a whirring sound. just happened recently. any ideas? Car has 45,000 miles and is 2003 gt. otigianal clutch

Probably the throw out bearing. Its a cheap part, but labor for the install (whether you pay or DIY)is a bitch.

jack the car up to get under it. you will see the clucth cable runs into the trans and theres a cover right near the cable. take the cover off. start the car. and look into the trans. you should see the clutch fork vibrating like crazy if it is the tob. TOB on mustangs dont seem to last long, i see 1000 post a week about your genere of questioning.

best way to test if its the throw out bearing, is if it makes that "whirring" noise with no pressure on the clutch, then just put very slight pressure on the clutch, if it goes away, throw out bearing, but like the guys above stated, sucks to replace. i had to do mine a few months ago, just went ahead and got the flywheel machined and new spec clutch put in. if you have the money, you might as well while they're in there.

+1 on the TOB and if you cant install it yourself get ready for a fairly hefty labor bill you might as well up grade your clutch while you are at it.
