Default Removing Transmission

2004 Mustang GT 5 Speed

Hey does anyone know when you are in the process of removing the transmission, when you get to the top 2 bolts of the transmission is it easier to try to take them off from the bottom of the car or from the top by the engine? Also what kind of tool is the best to use?

Any info would be appricated thanks.

Drop your crossmember, then let the back of your tranny fall down and get to them from the bottom.Much easier than trying to do it from up top.

Cool thanks. Do you know how many bolts are on the transmission so far we have gotten 3 from each side. There isnt 1 or 2 more on the top that we can't see are there? Because we got everything lose that we can see and the tranny isn't budging yet. Thanks for the help.

What do you mean let the transmission drop? We have already taken out all the bolts but 1, its on the top. We have already taken out the crossmember but the transmission does not seem to want to drop any. It doesnt seem like it will drop until that one bolt comes out. Is there anything else supporting the rear of the transmission that allows it to fall?

the transmission and motor will tilt down when you take off the crossmember making it easier to get to the top 2 bolts from under the car with a long extension and swivel socket.

I got to mine from the top... laying across the motor using a ratchet wrench.. It was a bitch but my headers wouldn't let my engine drop enough in the back to get to them from the bottom..

I used the "sitting on the motor with ratcheting wrench" approch also, works the fastest but it is with out a doubt...a bitch. (and i drew some blood, but i was all for the glory)
