Or remove the chip and buy/use the programmer.

ORIGINAL: 2002GTAUTOVERT

my understanding of a handheld was it copied the current tune immeadietly assuming it was OEM, so if you wanna remove the say "93 octane" tune and go back to stock you can. but i dunno ill leave this to the full on pro's
It will copy the stock tune. In other words, plug a handheld into a stock tuned car and it will store that stock tune in case you want to return the car back to a factory tune. But, if you plug a handheld into a car that already has an aftermarket or custom tune, thecustom/aftermarket tune will be erased, leaving you with either a stock tune or the new tune.

Strange I tried the negative battery cable thing and the CEL's are off now. I took it for a ride for a few miles and they haven't come back on. I'm going to take it out again tonight and see if they come back on.

The thing that made no sense was it never successfully uploaded the tune from the programmer. Both times it tried to read the computer and said error. So I'm assuming it couldn't have burned that program onto my car. If it did then it would have let us go through the next steps.

I'm wondering if maybe that triggered some old CEL's? I was having a problem with my MAF and the problem went away after I cleaned the maf a few weeks ago, and also about 2 months ago I changed the fuel filter and forgot to disconnect the negative cable both times. I'm wondering if that's what it was throwing.

The car ran no different after the CEL's came on. That's what threw me off the most.

It usually takes about 200 miles after you pull the negative cable for the CEL to come back on (Assuming the original problem is still there). I was thinking about the error thing. Are you sure he returned his car back to stock? If he didn't, the programmer would be locked to his VIN until he does.

Yeah he returned his car back to stock. What I don't get is if the programmer never got to the point where it really did anything, how could it damage it?

I called Diablosport today and they said if the chip was fried the CEL would've kicked on almost immediately. Now I don't know what to believe. I'll just continue to watch for the CEL and hope for the best.
