Techies ONLY, (no noobie unless you really know or you want to learn)
I currntly have in my garrage a 99 T-45 transmission. My car is a 96 with a 99 engine. I got the trans with the motor but quickly found out that I could not use the 99 trans with my 96 wiring harness. (unless I use a speedcal) Here's my question...
I have the complete 3 sections of the 99 wiring harness, TO INCLUDE the trans brain box/harness. Can I use the trans w/h>? The w/h connections are exactly the same.
I know the easy answer would be buy a speedcal. but thats not the question.

Mike if you realy want to use the 99 T-45 just swap out the tail shaft from your older T-45 onto the 99. This will save you all kinds of time. You might want to do this anyway becasue the 99 T-45 uses the 96/98 Cobra Trans mounting points. I could be wrong here as I can't remember when they started using the same T-45's in the GT and the Cobra

i remember hearing a similar question at one of our local get together around here, and a guy we roll with(who is a ford master tech) said only with modifications. im not sure exactly what that meant, but itd probably be easier to go with the entire harness.

If you have the 99 W/H, ECU, and the 99 transmission W/H I don't see why it would not work.
I also don't see how your going to use a speedcal to get it towork, unless they make one that converts the electrical setup on the older trans to the newer style electrical signal.
You could swap the tail housing, but IMO the best route wouldb e to do the harness UNLESS its going to be a major PITA to get the wires into the ECU.

I already know about the tail shaft swapping. That may be what i'll end up doing.
I can't use the 99 Engine W/H and ECU because I kept my Plug Wire set up. If I swap to the full COP swap then I'd have to deal with the PATS system, improper gauges and getting my car retuned. All of which are out of the question.

My question is very specific: Can I use the 99 Tran w/h with the "TRANS BRAIN BOX" with the 96 w/h? Do we know for sure? Or ar some of you guessing?

it may not work due to switching from the gear speed sensor to the electric. for the speedometer on your car, is it cable driven or electric? that would answer the question right there... if its cable, you cant use it, if its electric, there is a good chance it will work.

I think he is saying he wants to plug the connection from the trans into the electronic box mounted on the car that the old mechanical speedo unit plugged into.
I am going to go out on a limb here and say... probably not. I can't see how it would work perfectly, and if it did it will almost certianly not read correctly anyway (without changing the tune etc).
In other words, I don't know for sure, but if this was my situation I think the easiest thing would be to swap the tail housing, or get a different trans.
if I was going to all the trouble of doing the swap though, and could get the speedo to work without doing the housing drop... i would not put a 45 back in anyway. 3650 FTW, espcially since they are about the same price. I learned my lesson on using a used/rebuilt 45

You can't take the old speedo sending unit out and put it in the 3650? I've never actually seen the difference but if the 45 speedo unit won't bolt in place of the 3650 unitand the tail housings are interchangable then do it. I had a 98 gt and bought a tranny from a cobra, another T45, and swaped the tailhousings myself. It's very very simple and only took about a half hour to do. Don't put that off because you think it's a major job becasue it's not. Once you take the shifter off and knock the roll pin out the tail housing will just come right off after you remove the bolts.
