Default motor question

I am planning on supercharging my car. But first i wanna forge the internals. So if i were to get forged internals and some cams and then say like down the road my block cracks or something blows in the block. will i be able to reuse all of these internals that i spent all this money on or are they just trash because they have wore in to this motor??

My first thought is, "Why? Are you planning on doing something incredibly stupid to blow up a forged shortblock?"

I mean, Engines aren't exactly something you generally plan on blowing up.

first, if you do something to your engine bad enough to crack the block, chances are a bunch of the interals are going to be toast anyway because they will be what cracked the block.

Otherwise, you can use "used" internal parts.

I'd still just recommend not doing anything dumb enough to destory a forged shortblock.

Oh and by the way, if you're going to do cams, wait until you do the supercharger. A N/A engine needs different cams then a FI engine to make best HP.

Can't put it any better than that! I guess some people think that just because they go out and get forged internals or buy a forged short block that they cango out and punish their car. Everything has a breaking point and it makes no sense to spend the money (unless you have a moneytree out back)and go out and think your motor is indestructable.........I'mnot saying that's what the OP was going to do.

if you run low boost you wont even need a built motor but imo if you spend the money to forge the internals why not just buy a shortblock from mmr (modularmustangracing)?

i am going to get the supercharger cam, which i hear you can still run in a n/a engine, but i wanna push over 12 psi. I heard the 12 psi is the limit without forged, and you never know what will happen maybe they will tune it wrong or maybe i will mess up and redline too much and blow something. usually when something blows it is usually a piston which i can replace but i still wanna keep what i had with the old block. will my aluminum block stand up to the pressure that i want with forged internals

you'd need one hell of a wild setup to destroy your block.. i've heard of guys running in excess of 1000 hp with the stock block and forged rotating assemblies. and about the cam, yeah you can run a supercharger cam in a n/a engine, it's not like the cam is just so completely different that the motor won't run. it won't be optimum for a n/a setup, but if you know you're putting a supercharger on it then just put the cams in when you assemble the engine. just expect to have to get a tune while you're still n/a, and then another tune after you put the supercharger on... dyno tunes can get pricey unless you're tuning it yourself. if you've got the money to spend, i'd also get some ported heads (or have yours ported) while you're at it. ported heads + blower cam + forged bottom end + over 12 psi of boost = a LOT of power. just remember to have some extra cash set aside for new tires, cause you'll be replacing them more often too. have fun with it
