looking to spend 2-3000 right now to get my motor rebuilt and tuned up. Then I will bolt on more goodies. I dont know if FI will come into play, prob just heads, intake, exhaust and other bolt ons. If I were to rebuild my motor to stock specs, and non forged internals, how much HP could I safely run without problems?

Also what casting number blocks are in the 96 mustangs, does anyone know?

If you are willing to pay 3 grand buy a cobra motor. You get a forged crank+blockand an extra 2v per cylinder you cant go wrong.The connecting rods and pistons still suck though.

What block casting numbers fit in a 1996 GT 4.6? I am trying to order my short block.. Does anyone know?

You can put almost any 4.6 in there without any serious issue, except the newer 3v (05+). Rebuilding cost is about the same for a GT as it is for a Cobra. I would try to find a Cobra block and build it. Or if you can find some cobra heads, a new built shortblock from MMR is onlylike $2400. Go 4v, you won't regret it. A 2v takeswell over a $1000 in mods to get to the stock hp level of the4v.

hot rod magazine did a nice build a few months back on an early 4.6..
they carb it, add stage 2 cams, ported (pi) heads, headers, and a few more minor mods to make 360 or so hp for about 3 grand total.
