Default Motor Mounts keep breakin

Hola......
I've just got one quick question. Lately over the last few months (maybe a year) Ive had to replace the same motor mount twice....the right (passenger?) side. I wanted to get a personal opinion from you guys.....would it be a good idea to put a chain on that side..... I thought it could work...My dad has chains on his car, he had the same problem, 81 el camino, built 350, 450+ rwhp.... good idea or no?

(sorry bout the double post, damn dell, lol)

You shouldn't be breaking mounts like that. Are they stock Ford mounts? Are you sure your engine is sitting evenly in the k member, not shifted to one side? It sounds like you have some sort of issue with the alignment of the engine (or just really bad luck) thats causing the mount to break. Its kind of tight under there. Im not sure how you'd get a chain to hold everything in place (or how it would prevent the mount from breaking again), I guess you could try it though. Personally, Id look for the cause of the broken mount, there's gotta be something wrong if you're on your third mount on that side only...

Did you do the mounts yourself?? Did you make sure to torque them down correctly (correct torque rating)???

Unless you're bouncing on the gas constantly, it's tough to say why they'd break, besides what Mark99GT said...

some, how much power are you making and how bad is the motor torquing? First get an aftermarket mount, but a torque bar wont hurt.. some people use a chain, youll be amazed how much adding that will add to your car

... but on a side note, like they said, there is no real reason for the mounts to be breaking like that, that I can think of
