alternator pulley.
is there a trick to puling the pulley off my old alternator and putting it on my new one?

Yeah, an impact gun.
Take it to a shop and see if they'll just blast it off for you.

Take a rag and hold the pulley while hitting it with the impact gun.

either that or leave the tension of the belt on it, worked for me.

put the old serp belt on and hold it with a pair of vice grips or a clamp

I had the same problem on my 2000. I then used the impact gun in a pulsating manner not in a continuous manner. It came right off. Good luck.
