Default crappy "plastic" intake

3 ou 4 years ago,my intake was replace under recall R97M91.
i was concern about the new intake that they put on it.seem the same intake that as a conception problem.

well, today i had the proof it was the same.
the F***** intake blew again this afternoon.[:@]prestone everywhere.
a chance i was about 20 seconds from home.
but now the recall is issue.it was good for 7 years.so it is at my expense i will fix the car this time.i find that ford did not had good intention with that recall.the change the part fort the same misconcept part.seem they were hopping that the second time it bust was past the 7 years.well it was.they shoul garenty the intake for 7 years also if you ask my.
anyway.
Seem i am gonna have to buy my PI heads and intake sooner than i though.

That sux. The plastic intake manifold was a bad deal in the first place. Mine also blew 5 years ago and was replaced under warranty. However, I was at least told during the replacement that the repair part had the weakness point corrected. It's sad to hear that I was likely lied to by the local dealer. In any case, if you have to pay, I would suggest looking into the COBRA intake which is metal. The part likely is about $100-150 more but will eliminate that issue from happening again. Before paying I would work the dealer over pretty hard to honor the warranty and replace the part though!!! This might also be worth writing to the president of FMC concerning the issue...it could get you a freebie replacement. If that doesn't work, I would run around the local dealership during the repair yelling CHEVY RULES, LOL. SHAME ON YOU FORD!

Im getting ready to do a Intake swap. Summit Racing has the PI intake for the 98's for like 199. But the guy above me said get the corba intake? So my question is does the cobra intake fit on a 98 gt? Please explain because i'll buy it if it does.

Andy98GT,

My understanding is the Cobra intake manifold is the same for '96 thru '98 Mustangs. On the '96 and '97 you have to replace the computer, but the '98 is ok the way it is. Check out Ford Racing Part Cobra Intake Manifold Assembly '96-'98 . They do not list the intake manifold by itself but check out #24 M9424-T46 is a 1996-98 Mustang Cobra Manifold Assembly.

Also...

Here is an interesting article regarding mix and match 4.6L Engine mix & match. It does not specifically mention the cobra intake manifold, however, it does say...* Ford Racing intake manifolds (PN M-9444-D46/E46)-- physically fit all 4.6 engines but will only match the cylinder head port shape of 1996-98 4.6 engines. The manifold kit is similar to the Bullitt intake but not identical. Weight is approximately 35 pounds (stock plastic manifold is 15 pounds).

That is as much help as I can be other than our crappy local Ford dealer saying they were willing to install the Cobra intake manifold for a few hundred $$$ instead of replacing my blown one with another plastic one. I have to take that information for what it is worth...It will be interesting to see what additional information will get posted here. Thanks for asking if it will work...potentially good info for me to collect also...
