p0171 running lean

p0171 running lean
so my check engine light came on today and it says p0171 the car is running lean. whats up with this also i do have a bassani o/r x pipe could this be the problem. also fuel filter was changed a few thousand miles ago. now the car runs great but the light did come on. plus i never tuned the car. how bad is this?
