Default Rear end question

I currently have a stock 28 spline set up but want to run slicks. I have 3.73s and I want to build up the rear so I dont break anything when doing so. I figure a 31 spline axel and posi-rear will do me fine but I am confused. I see alot of junk on ebay off of cobras, F150s and such that say 31 spline trak-log rear for like 199. Stuff do I need to get in the rear? I dont have all the money in the world.... but I definately want to be safe.

What kind of power are you putting down. 28 splines are good for 375 hp with redline launches on slicks.

Stock 265 with 3.73s.... all the people i have talked to said if your going to run slicks... go 31 spline axels due to all the torque.

Just run the stock stuff...if it brakes, then spend the money. I wouldn't bother now unless you just have money to burn. But if you insist...go with the following:

MOSER 31 spline axles ($199)
Trak-Lok or better performance differential ( $300 - ? )
3.73 performance gear set ($130 - )

Torsen Limited Slip Differential

A bit pricey, but very nice.

Well let me tell you... I put down 276 rwhp and 325 lb ft of tq in my GT and I have slap 275/60/15 BFG Drag radials on and did several launches at 5000 rpms and never broke traction or an axle. My car was a daily driver also. Dont waste your money till you get a blower.

Save the money you are gonna put into the rear and put it toward a blower. MDValdosta did several launches on his 28 spline axles with 420 hp before he bent one. Do something to make more power before you invest in upgrades for the power you dont have yet.
