i want the least expensive route to make between 350-400hp and comparable torque #'s when all is said and done. i dont care if it involves a supercharger or not, if its the least expensive route. i would like to not have to change much to the car as far as mounts and all that. i would also like to keep fuel injection. i dont care if its a crate engine, a used 2v, used 4v, stripping my old engine and forging it and what not or just starting with a new block and going from there. im just looking for the cheapest route to make 350-400hp and torque.

lets see what u guys got for me. I have been following the engine build thread where 99BlackPonyGT is using a brand new 460 block but i think that will be too expensive for me...
the block im using has 60k miles on it...its just been freshened up by a machine shop...also, 460 and 4.6 are not the same... mines 460cid and a 4.6 is 281cid...

as for making your numbers, i would say your best bet is swapping in a stock 2v PI motor, and a used s/c kit... motor can be had for 500-1000 and the s/c for 1500-2500

mark motors and cobra motors are not the same motor

and with 180k, i wouldnt even worry about a new motor yet... these motors are in taxi cabs and they get neglected as **** and still run to 250k+

just keep up the maintenance

i use cheap oil in mine, but i do my maintenance on time...ive got 160k on my car, and i drive it like its stolen almost every time i get behind the wheel...it runs like a champion

i heard that it would be a bad idea to add a supercharger to engines with as many miles as mine has. it has been very well maintained obviously, so to get the power i want u think it would be safe just to add a supercharger to my current stock engine? im driving this until it dies and i have no doubt that it will last past 200,000 but i want more power

I'd go with the second link.

Edit: I know you want cheap but we might be able to help a lil better if you give us a max $$ amount.

we will say $3000 max. i also want it to be able to handle more power if i get tired of 350hp lol... so im thinkin maybe finding a 4v cobra and going from there. will the 4v drop right in my 99 gt? can i use all the same electronics?

4v has same internals....except the 03/04 cobras...

1. goodluck doing a 4v swap with 3grand
2. even if you did, youre still gonna be **** slow without the blower, which definately cant be had combined with a 4v swap, on a 3 grand budget
3. if you want more than 400rwhp, youre gonna want to build the bottom end...so its not going to matter 2v or 4v if you dont plan to put internals in it...they cap out the same

Im seeing the words cheap, daily driver, mpg and 400rwhp all in the same topic here. Seems to be asking alot. Any 4V that came out of a Cobra is going to be expensive.... mostly just because it was in a Cobra. If you want 4V, go for a Mark VIII or Aviator motor. Going with a 5.4 is going to be too expensive for what you want to spend. If you are handy enough, rebuild your motor yourself, and pick up a used S/C kit off ebay for $2000 or so. Done and Done.
