A 180° T-stat will lower combustion chamber temps and allow more aggressive timing settings, it will also slightly increase emissions if you live in a place that tests such things...

Can you benefit much from a lower degree thermostat? I've already got my timing bumped up 2 degrees and seems to do really good there.

I ran a 180 on my car for years. Never had a problem here, and (as stated above) after my PI swap my shop was able to have more play in timing it.

I am running +4.5° over stock global advance, and +2.0° in the Spark Borderline table settings at the higher loads and rpms--this means that as WOT I am +6.5° over the stock tune limits--this is all with 93 octane fuel of course...

well my other post i was asking about this valvetrain noise im hearing, it does it at all rpms and loads, i thought it may have been pinging but it kinda sounds like lifter slapping, but really lite, i think it may be normal but im not sure, still dont have a tune for the swap but the car runs stronger than before, if the timing is causing this very lite pinging noise, assuming that it is ping, lower temp stat should help or fix it i think, any help from those who have done the swap on the 98 gt i will appreciate. i also have the cobra oil pump.
