If your car is a 2000, you have the T45 transmission. The drain and fill plugs are on the driver's side of the transmission. You will need a pump of some sort to fill it up again.
Another precaution, if someone is going to change their fluid while the shifter is removed, when you pull the drain plug, that old transmission fluid comes out FAST. For me, it just barely caught the end of the drain pan...
This might also apply even if the shifter is not removed.
