Default whining noise

so all of a sudden this past week i have heard what sounds like a whining noise coming from the rear of the car while driving. I can only hear it when the car is moving and am not sure what it could be. can anyone give me any clues to what this noise may be. Thanks in advance.

Most likely the gears in the rear end. Does it sound louder and faster as you get going faster?

Is there any difference if you make hard turns or get on the brakes?
