Default 5.4 Lightning Swap Begins

As i accumulate more and more parts for the swap project into my faleen, more problems become clear. I have done hours of research for this project and have concluded each 5.4 swap project is very different from the other. The parts required vary for each build specific to each car.

I know alot of successfl N/A 5.4 swaps however cannot find very much info on swapping a superchargerd motor into my mustang.

Any secrets/advice to building a supercharged mod motor?

Is a lightning computer and engine harness required? will these wk in my mustang?

Now that the engine is boosted, how can i retard the timing?

Will stock 01 expedtion pistons and rods hold up to 10lbs?
How about the stock crank?

I am sure more questions will arise as my project continues so any help would be appreciated. I will post pics if anyone is interested.

I am 17, this is my second rebuild, again, ANY advice will be helpful
Thank you

Ok, while Im not going to go into depths here, I'll shed some light on your situation.

First off, a Lightning motor will NOT fit under and hood other than a massive cowl...6" I believe.

Next problem. Transmission. Your not going to be able to use the 4R100 from the L, so you will need a beefed up 4R70. Next issue we come across is tuning the motor and car.

You talk about a L swap, but then mention Expedition parts? Lightning rods are garbage, the pistons are decent and NOT the same as regular 5.4 motors. The crank is also a Lightning piece. Its forged and not the same as a Expedition.

I've seen stock L's (8psi) vent the block. I vented my block with 15psi. If the tune isnt SPOT ON it will explode those rods in no time. If you want to do this, and do it right, you should build off a 5.4 block, L or Navigator crank, and decent rods/pistons. I see a ton of problems with tryna wedge the whole setup into the car. You are better off just building a nice 4.6 and throw some boost at it thru an intercooled centri.

This is just my opinion, so take it how you want.

i wanted to do a 5.4 bottom end with the pi heads and a vortech so i want to see how you do it.

my idea was just to go off of a lightning spec block with a manley rotating assembly and see how far i can go with the pi heads. just because the block i have just came with the crank thats it. and run the vortech. i just wanted to do something diffrent but maybe later

all newer mod engine have the same tranny bolt pattern to you have option for the tranny. the stock mustang computer can run a lightning engine but you have to have it tune obviously. you should just use the lightning pistons since they are forged and the expediton's arent. the rods should be the same since only the 03/04 cobras use the forged manyley rods. the cranks can be the same between the exp and the lightning since some 5.4 had forged cranks. the timing on the engine will be addressed by the tuner when you get it tuned so dont worry about that.

are there any advantages to using a lightning engine harness versus the stock mustang harness?
