Default Lowering Springs or Drag Launch Springs

Im thinking about getting a set of lowering springs for my 02 GT. I really like the look of my mustang lowered but I found a set of drag launch springs (which dont lower the car at all, but Im really into drag racing) for the same price as lowering springs. Is the performance of the drag launch springs worth not getting lowering springs? And is there any way I can get springs that will launch better and will lower my car too?

Yes the drag launch springs don't lower your car at all but for some reason they sit quite nicely in foxes (after you trim just the fronts).

If you want drag racing type springs that make your car lower which also saves you money overall, you can get some 4 cylinder fox-body springs for the front. For the rears, you can either trim down your stock spring or go with FRPP B/C springs in the rear...or also go with fox body V8 rear springs.

I am planning on sticking to either my stock springs (cut or not) or Mach 1 springs in the rear. For the front I am planning on getting some NAPA Auto Parts 4cyl fox body springs which cost around $85 for the pair. I believe they may make the car sit like stock or a bit lower in uncut form. You can also trim it down a bit since it has a linear spring rate.

Stock 99-04 GT front springs are rated at 450lbs/inch....the NAPA 4cyl springs are rated at 383...just to put the difference in ride quality into better perspective.

So if you are really into drag racing and just want to go a bit lower than stock, you have these options:

1. Trimming down your stock springs (which are actually pretty darn good for drag racing).

2. Going with something softer in the front like 4cyl foxbody springs (cut or uncut)...and then trimming your stock rear springs or going with something just a bit stiffer and lower like FRPP B/C rear springs or Mach 1/Bullitt rear springs.

So it's really up to you...just remember that it is only wise to cut springs with linear spring rates and not progressives.

I just got the info off JayC on this forum who uses them. I looked at all the 4cyl springs that NAPA offers and the one he uses/suggests seems to be the ones best suited for the job according to the specs. The part number is 277-3060. Either that or 270-3060...can't remember which part# it is.

Ford Racing M-5300-C springs is what I am running currently. The only regret I have now after doing those and new shocks is I cant break loose anymore, I miss easy burn outs Anyways, heres a ride height example of the springs.

Keep your stock springs in the rear if you want to launch your car. Lowering your car puts the wrong angle on the 4 link suspension which in turns changes your IC and if your into drag racing your will want to make sure you have the right angle on your IC. It is a very involved process to adjust your rearend to launch correctly. If you do it right, you will be using the least amount of power to launch your car the quickest aka being very efficient.

If you want to learn about drag suspension, read THIS link. It is very informative and you will learn a lot that you wouldn't learn on this forum.

And if you have money to buy suspension parts, look at baseline suspensions Prolaunch #1 or street kit with an anti-roll bar setup.
