Darn rain
I had installed a CAI several months ago, that gets it air from inside the fender, still have the wheel wells in place. I have driven through the rain before with no issues, but today the rainwas pretty bad with a lot of standing water. Well I sucked up water into my filter and cause the engine to run very rough, with no power. I drove it easy with giving it a lot of power, after I got out of the rain and driven another 5 miles it returned to normal. Luckily I did not bend a rod or anything. But now in the process of cleaning the filter, and waiting for it to dry out. There is an old trick I hhave heard of cleaning carbon build up is to pour a little water in to the intake while the engine is running, if this is true I should have no carbon in my engine LOL. Guess I'll be more care next time I drive around standing water.

i have a Densecharger CAI that has two 90 degree 4" elbows that places the filter down by the fender....i just removed one of the elbows and it now only sits right outside the hole in the fender. Problem solved.
i never had a problem, but it always worried be with puddles on the side of the road, so i took care of it before i did. not like i lost any "power" from taking an elbow out. not like there is any power added via CAI anyways.

Pouring water into your intake is an old method of cleaning carbon off the valves in the old '60s-'70s carburated motors. I have done it but you want more of a mist not a flow of water. You can use Coke to clean deposits off the battery cables too.
On our EFI motors if you get water in the intake it fouls the MAF. Then the computer doesn't know to add fuel. The newer generation motors also have tigher tolerances and are much more likely to hydrolock then the older ones.
