I bought a 01 GT deluxe convertible a while back and lately the speedo sticks around 15mph then jumps up to about 40mph when i'm going about 35 from this point it works normally but isn't accurate. my question is whats the most common cause for this type of problem, the cable/speed sensor, gauge, or cable gear?

something could be clogging it behind the instrument panel. Take it out and move the needle with your finger, see if it tuggs.
