The accumulator is right up against the passenger side firewall--here's the R 'n R procedure from the shop manual.

After replacing the accumulator you will need a vacuum pump to evacuate the system, or have it done at a shop. Pulling a high vacuum (28inHg or more) will remove air and water (the water will boil off) from the system and prepare it for charging.

You will need to add 8.6oz of PAG (PolyAlkylene Glycol) lubricant if the dealer did not when they replaced the compressor.

BTW--If they did not add the lubricant then DO NOT even attempt to run the compressor, as you will be buying a new one if you do--in fact, I would remove the fuse (fuse #24 in the battery junction box) just to make sure.

The system capacity is 34.0oz of R134a refrigerant. R134a is a HFC (HydroFluoroCarbon) refrigerant and is not Freon.

Freon is a HCFC (HydroChloroFluoroCarbon, sometimes called CFC) product, use of which was outlawed in 1978.

Thanks for the details and the copy of the pages of the shop manual... "refrigerant" , got it, lol...

They told me the same thing, do NOT attempt to start the a/c, so I am assuming there is no lubricant in there.

I'm probably going to have a shop evacuate the system. I am wondering if just have them refill the refrigerant. Is the one we buy over the counter any different to what a shop would put in?

R134a is R134a, doesn't matter who buys it, where it's bought, or what size can/bottle it comes in. The small cans from your FLAPS are 12oz so you'd need three...
