What could be wrong?
I just went into a shop and had my diff opened up and axle replaced... and now my gas needle runs down faster and every time I run the car and then park and turn it off, i smell gas. the motor sounds the same as before the repair... but MAYBE a little louder as far as exhaust note... Is my car running rich? or was a gas line a little ****ed up during the repair? It is NOT dripping gas.
Also, 8 days ago I was up at about 5000 feet and running the car for about a 3 day period. Could the ECU maybe not have re-adjusted to the return to lower altitude and thicker air?

If they caused a gas leak there really is no reason you're MPG should be affected by rear end work unless they changed the gear ratio. As far as a gas smell goes, there is a hose on the gas tank thank runs up to the charcoal canister in the passenger side fender well. It is part of the EVAP system which takes gas fumes that are collected while the car isn't running and pushes them into the intake system when you start the car. It is a possibility that they could of damaged this hose or it got pulled off while they were working in the back of the car but it would be unlikley because all they are doing in that area is taking off the diff cover and working inside the rear and the end of the axle tube.
