Running Lean anyone know
I have a Demolet Motorsports Densecharger & an off road X-pipe. My check engine light went on & a mechanic friend put a scanner on it & says its running lean slightly. Do I need a special tune to get this right? It also "pops" when I let off the gas, like a little series of pops. It runs strong though, my question is will this ruin the engine & what will it take to fix this? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance</P>
(BTW my mechanic doesnt speciallize in Mustangs so he couldnt really help me)</P><edited><editID>Rico753</editID><editDate>37955.9574421296</editDate></edited>

OUCH, if your car is supercharged you need to stop driving it NOW. If your motor leans out even more for whatever reason you will be going to Ford for a new motor.</P>
You have minor mods, but these mods respond amazing on a supercharged car, you should really look into a custom chip, but if that isn't accessible you should look for a chip that appears to be closest to ideal for your setup.</P>

99 and upmustang GT's have a returnless fuel system and theirs your problem YOU need to contact steeda in florida they are the only one using the tech tranfer system ! what happens on late model supercharged mustangs after 40psi of fuel pressure the car's computer starts to pull fuel away because it think the car is running RICH ,but on 99 and mod 4.6 motors the supercharged you really need at least 55psi at WOT or you'll detonate [pinging] a liitle too much of that SAY BYE BYE to your motor !! just call steeda to learn more! <edited><editID>shmGTs2</editID><editDate>37959.7282638889</editDate></edited>

".........<FONT face=Arial size=3>Running Lean anyone know why?"</FONT></P>
<FONT face=Arial size=3></FONT></P>
<FONT face=Arial size=3>I know why..there's something called the MAS (mass air sensor) that regulates the amount of fuel that is injected to get burned depending on how much air goes thru the MAS..If too much air enters in relation to the amount of fuel that is injected that is call a "lean" situation,,I hope this helps.......enjoy!</FONT></P>

Rico, get a MAF tuner. This accomplishes the same thing as a chip, and you won't have to worry about getting the tune right. Once installed, take it to a wideband dyno and tune it perfectly in 20 mins. Or better yet, put a wideband digital a/f ratio guage on your car. Then you can dynotune your car on the street. I have used these on 2 different Saleens i own, and they are absolutly fabulous. I'll never go back to a chip.

hey rico753 call up steeda motorsports and they can custom burn a chip for your application. All you do is tell them what your engine has and they custom tune it for you.</P>
