Default Strange starting problem...

Every once out of about 20 times I start my car, it takes 2 too 3 times longer to start the engine? It does the hesitation both when its cold or warm, it does it randomly. I brought it to a dealership and started my engine on and off and waited like 10 seconds between each start like 25 times. It did it once. The tech said that he thinks its a fuel problem. The fuel might be boiling in the fuel rail and getting air in the injectors, but I would think it would do it more frequently. He also thinks it might be losing fuel pressure, mabye something wrong with the fuel pump not being able to hold pressure. But how much pressure could it lose 10 seconds between starts? I am so confused, and aggrivate!! The tech said hes going to call the a Ford Engineer and see if he wants to come down and look at it, but I will hear back in a week. But I am expecting to hear a no. I only have 1500 miles left on my warranty too!!

The tech also said since I have a K&N filter oil might be on the mass air sensor and screwing up the air fuel ratio. But it still did the same problem when I had the stock paper filter in place.

HELP!!!!!

Has anyone else had this problem, or could have any idea whats causing this??!!

I have a K&N filter, and flowmaster cat back exhaust. Everything else is stock.

Please help!!

Mine used to do it, but i changed the fuel filter and havent had any other trouble out of it. I've seen alot on here about the 96-98's taking a little longer to crank sometimes, but haven't seen to many with the 99+ having that problem. Try the fuel filter and see what happens...it's a cheap and easy way to start...

Mine does the same thing, although it only does it when the engine is warm. Say i've been driving for 20 mins and I stop somewhere and am gone from my car for 5 mins. When i come back to start it up, it hesitates firing up. Very strange, and i remember a thread about this a while back, but don't remember what the conclusion was.

mine does that too. it won't quite crank the first 1 or 2 times and then it fires up. usually fires up a little slow, too. doesn't do it all the time and it always starts eventually so I haven't taken it in.

Could be clogged fuel injectors. Ummm, I'm trying to think if maybe the timing is involved also, not sure.

Check the following:

Fuel Injectors
Timing
Spark Plugs
Maybe a sensor is malfunctioning.

Or, it just might be nothing at all and that may just be the car showing it's age. j/k

See if that helps.

I replaced my fuel filter with a Napa filter at 30,000 miles. I am at 34,500 miles now. I will try replacing it again and see what happens. I will get some fuel injector cleaner additive too and see if that stops it. The timing on my car is stock, I havent checked the spark plugs, its probably a real pain the get to them, but I will replace them too this week. I will let you guys know my results.

My car also struggles when it finally starts, like kinda struggles at 200rpm for a half second or so and then finally revs up and drops down to 750rpm. like it normally would.

ive never had the car take much longer to turn over, but after its turned over i have had problems within the last two weeks

im not trying ot postjack either

but when the car starts, and it revs up at start the rpms drop WAY down, nearly to 200-300 and then it surges back up to about 1K before settling around 750ish where it should

anyone have this occurance?

I have heard of that problem before. I believe you have to adjust the sensor on your throttle body. You either loosen the screw on the sensor or tighten it, and it raises or lowers the idle rpm. Try that and see if it fixs it. But remember what setting it was stock so you can go back to the position if needed. Count your revolutions, or half or quarter turns.
