Offset mufflers swapped for Bullet style mufflers; possible?
I don't want to purchase unnecessary piping so instead of a catback exhaust I just want the mufflers. Would bullet style mufflers fit my GT's offset mufflers. I understand if possible i might have to bend some piping.....has anyone done this?

we all are on budgets and can appreciate trying to spend only what is needed. From my experience from trying to do this, in addition to pipe bending, some cutting/welding needs done so it's best to take the car and the new mufflers to a exhaust shop and let them do the job. My aggravation from doing these types of things with exhaust set-ups has led me to believe that just buying the catback made for the type of muffler you want is the way to go, not only for proper fitment but also for longevity. Good luck with it.

Your welcome. I feel ya on the budget thing. Been there (still there) done that. The way you think is going to be cheaper is still gonna cost you a good chunk of change, believe me it just does. Just putting away a little loot from each paycheck for a brand new complete catback is the way to go, you'll thank yourself for it. I learned the hard way.

Unless you get a good deal on the install labor, I think you're still gonna be pretty close to what a cat back system would cost. I figure it like this.... An SLP LM system goes for roughly $450 (I'm referencing that one since you mentioned going to bullet style mufflers, but of course there are other systems out there with like mufflers...). Figure you purchase two LM1 mufflers from AM, I think the set goes for $180 (little more for the LM2's). Now for labor, since you live in San Diego we'll figure labor at $75/hr X at least two hours (I'm from SoCal too, and to the best of my knowledge and experience good shops around here cost $75/hr). So we've got $180+$150+tax; I didn't do the tax calculation right now but we can safely call it $350 by the time it's all said n' done.
So you're really only saving $100 or so. If it were me, I know I would be happier with the end result by saving up or otherwise figuring out the extra scratch. But I also understand the tight budget situation (married, one kid, two steps, and another kid due next May) so I can definitely appreciate where you're at. Just wanted to give a little food for thought on this.

Thats the one i am interested in. Looks really nice but wouldn't I get the same sound stock piping? I'd really be saving approx. 200 bucks.
My main reason for this post i guess, is how big a difference is the stock piping from that of the aftermarket piping?

^ That's exactly what I'm running, along with an o/r x pipe. And wow, the price has gone up some since I bought my stuff. Stock pipes are 2.25", most cat back systems including that one are 2.5". If you can save $200 vs. the $100 I figured then I say go for it. Difference in sound between weld in vs. new cat back I think will be minimal. Not really any hp gains to speak of either way.
