engine strains when fan turns on
I recently returned from Afghanistan, and my 2002 GT pretty much sat around for the year I was gone. I have been working on it everyday trying to get it back to the condition it was in when I left but she is having some problems I can't figure out.
I started driving it again and everything seemed fine at first, then I noticed the temperature started rising anytime I was not moving. I realized the fan wasn't kicking on because it was seized. The fan motor was melted and locked up. I replaced the fan but it still wouldn't kick on. I tracked it down to a blown 50A fuse under the hood. The fan works now, however anytime it turns on, the engine starts straining pretty bad. Its acting like its under a large load, it will start idleing rough and bogging down. Sometimes when I am stopped, I will have to give it a little gas to keep it going. When the fan turns off, she starts running great again, no problems. I am not sure what else to check, I am out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Did you put a new fan in? Something to consider is what made that 50amp fuse blow and ruin the fan in the first place. If you did not fix that problem it is still going to ruin your fan. Kinda sounds like you are either drawing to many amps when the fan is on or maybe even a short in the fan wiring harness

Yeah, I replaced the fan. The old one was shot. That is what I am concerned about, is what caused the fuse to blow. I am not really sure of the best way to test for shorts. I have checked the wires from the fan to the CCRM for any damage, and they looked good. I didn't have time to trace the wires any further.
