Rear Diff Swap Possible with no issues?
I cant remember when I replaced a wheel stud in rear if my Cobra had ABS rings?
Does anyone know if in fact this year had ABS?
Reason im asking and maybe someone can tell if the swap would work.?
I have a 1999 Mustang GT that has 4:10 gears in it
I have a 1997 Cobra that has stock 3:27
Id like to swap axles 99 to 97 and 97 to 99.
I know the axle in the 99 is a tad longer that the 97 but that would be good for the Cobra where the stock wheels tuck in but I have new wheels 10.5
can this swap be done with no issues for either Mustang ?
Now I know the 97 axle in the 99 will tuck the wheels in alittle but nothing a spacer or different offset wheel wouldnt fix.
Reason I asked about ABS rings as well is I think that would be the only issue if the 97 axle didnt have them. But I think it did.
Thank You Mfers for help

While I haven't done the swap I'm fairly sure all the cobras came with ABS, so that shouldn't be an issue. You can always pop under there and take a look. If the car has ABS, it'll have it on the rear. Check the engine bay for an ABS module, if that's easier.
Otherwise the swap should be direct and shouldn't take long as long as the control arm bolts come out easily.

How about you swap the housings and then keep the axles with the specific car.....OR go pull the wheel off your car and look yourself? Physically there is no reason why you can't switch the rears out.
Even quicker....go pop the hoods on the cars and see if they both have an ABS block....abs block means abs rings...

Thank You Mfers.
So the swap should go well.
Just need to get 3\4 - 1" spacers for the GT when the 97 axle assy is in it.
That will bring wheels to stock location as if the stock axle assy was in it.
Well I plan on doing this swap 1st thing in the spring and will post pics
I bet the 97 will love the 4:10
As for the GT its becoming my good weather DD so 3:27 will be better for my Highway driving.
Thanks again

From what I have read the sn95 does not have the ABS ring which means your light will be on in the GT. I would just pull the axels and keep them with the original car and swap everything else. Its an easy swap. I had 4.10s in my GT and when I totaled it I swapped in an sn95 sixxer rearend from a junk yard. I am currently swapping that rearend into my Mach. 4v with 4.10 will be awesome, you'll love it.
