I understand the budget constraints since I just graduated in December and have lived the broke student life. (Curious... are you going to school in NC or out of state? Shoot me a PM if you are by chance going to NCSU)

I would try to find a set of used Bullitt or Mach1 springs. They would drop your GT about 3/4", but you can cut a little more off them(not much) and remove the ISOS for a little more drop. That would be a much better handling set-up than what came on your car, but you would be approaching a point where you might need CC Plates for alignment(if you cut much off the springs) and you might also get to a point where you need firmer struts/shocks to control motion better. Those springs shouldn't cost you more than $100 and installing them isn't hard if you have the space and some tools. That would be the best value in my opinion.

Cut mach/bullitt or even cobra coupe springs are all #600 IIRC. I have a set of mach 1 springs up front for sale that you can cut 1/2 a coil and remove isos upon install. Should be a noticeable drop and better handling. You would just have to address the rear.
