Default 2000 mustang engine?

HI everyone.

I recently got a 2000 mustang gt convertible with a 4.6 and 5 speed manual.
The problem is the engine is not good anymore.
I found a cheap 01 engine but im unsure if the engine will work...so my question is will a 4.6 out of a 2001 mustang fit in a 2000 mustang with no major problems?

Thanks for the help,
Tyler

Yes it will, however is it a romeo block or windsor block? could be either coming from an 01. Im not sure if that would cause any issues, someone else will have to chime in on that.

if its a windsor, then he would have to pickup a 8 bolt flywheel/flexplate and the wiindsor valve covers if the engine didnt have these already

What is the difference between DOHC and SOHC then? Or does that not matter?

Thanks for the help though

Dohc is dual overhead cams. Which cobras and mach1 engines are. Not gt. just means it has 2 cams per head instead of one. So a total of 4 instead of 2.

I did a little research mid 01's switched to 6 bolt and before that they were 8 bolt.
I got a pic of the vin and date on car its coming out of.
The date part at the top say: 03/01
Im assuming thats before they went to 6 bolt but some input would be helpful

Thanks
