Default Idle Problems

Hey guys

Whenever I let off the gas and slow down my rpms drop to about 300 and sometimes my car dies. Figured it was my IAC, so I went ahead and cleaned it and the problem is still there. I guess this means I need to buy a new one.....

Late model restoration has them for $120 and ebay has them for ~$30. Is there any difference between the two? Also is there anything else I should try to try and fix this?

Thanks

I had this issue and it went away on its own. not really sure what to make of it. RPMS dipped when coming to a stop.

seemed worse on humid nights, could be a vac leak

Ford used two different IAC units. 99-01(early 01) and 01(late 01)-04)

The 99-01(e) is a cheaper unit. I think I paid $40 for mine at O'Reilly's

^ yes, the earlier model was sourced from Hitachi and has a vent to the backside of the solenoid plunger diaphragm.

The later model was sourced from Nippondenso and does not have the vent.

Though I have not directly compared the valves they have identical mounting and flow patterns, and electrical characteristics, and should be interchangeable. Were I to find myself needing another I would buy the earlier model and save the $$...

Well I replaced my iac and everything seems to be ok. When the engine is cold it still idles a bit low at about 500 or so. Once it warms up though it runs great.

Did you disconnect the battery for 5-7 minutes to force the PCM to relearn the idle air and fuel trims? If no then do so, if you did then it should get better as the PCM learns the new values...
